Why dropdown list questions don’t automatically close ?

When using a “Dropdown list (Multiple answers)” type question in a survey, it’s normal for the list to remain open until the respondent clicks elsewhere on the form.
This behavior is intentional — it allows respondents to select multiple options at once without needing to reopen the list each time.

How to improve the user experience:

If you find that this behavior makes navigation less smooth or hides the next question, you have two options:

  1. Change the question type
Replace the “Dropdown list (Multiple answers)” type with “Multiple choices (Multiple answers)”.
This displays all available options directly as checkboxes, avoiding the need to open or close a dropdown menu.

  2. Adjust the next question’s order or requirement
You can modify the order of questions or remove the required setting from the following question.
However, this is a less optimal solution in terms of ergonomics.
